We know the idea of a 4-day school week is a controversial topic, with strong feelings on both sides. At Commerce Public Schools, we value every voice and understand that this decision would impact our students, families, and staff in different ways.

Here’s a glimpse of what our 288 respondents had to say:

Supportive Quotes:

  • “I would love the 4 days a week, it will work greatly for my family.”

  • “Every person I have visited with that has a 4-day week loves it.”

  • “I would love to have a 4-day week. If Commerce doesn’t adopt it, we will transfer our students to a school that does.”

  • “I feel like 3-day weekends will make it harder to remember what they were studying the week before.”

  • “I do not think it’s a smart decision.”

  • “That is a bad idea all around.”

  • “Most doctor’s offices don’t see patients on Fridays. I believe Monday is a far better day off for appointments.”

On the overall impact of a 4-day school week to families:

  • 53% feel it would have a mostly positive impact

  • 31% are neutral

  • 16% feel it would have a mostly negative impact

On whether they support Commerce Public Schools moving to a 4-day school week:

  • 48.4% are very supportive

  • 14.6% are somewhat supportive

  • 11.8% are neutral

  • 9.1% are somewhat opposed

  • 16% are strongly opposed

If Commerce adopted a 4-day school week, which day would respondents prefer to have off?
