Dear Commerce Public Schools Families:
This year we have implemented many new policies and practices to protect the safety of our students and staff and to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt recently issued an executive order that will require an additional adjustment for our indoor extracurricular activities.
Effective immediately, the order temporarily mandates schools and other entities reduce attendance at youth extracurricular events by allowing only four spectators/audience members per participant – or up to 50% of the building’s official capacity (whichever is less). The order applies to all Oklahoma public and private schools so restrictions will be in place for out-of-town games as well.
At this time, the new guideline will affect the following programs and events for our district: (basketball games at CMS/CHS gyms, including youth basketball).
We know it is important to our students and their families to experience these important and memorable competitions and celebrations together. We are doing everything possible to support our school district, while also following this new requirement and continuing to place safety as our greatest priority.
For sporting events, three tickets each will be provided to Commerce athletes for every game, through Christmas break. Based on the order, we must limit attendance for events in the Commerce High School gym and the Commerce Middle School gym. This will continue until at least the second week of January. For more information or to request additional tickets, if numbers will allow, please call Commerce High School (918-675-4343).
Please remember that Commerce Public Schools require students, staff and guests to wear masks and social distance while on campus. If you do not feel well, please stay home.
We appreciate your support during this challenging time. Thank you for continuing to support our students and staff – their safety and health, as well as their pursuit of excellence in their activities. Go Tigers!
Sincerely,
Jimmy R. Haynes, Superintendent
Commerce Public Schools
